Cleaving the Difference

Because language cleaves
difference that matters
Inuit people in the Arctic had
more than fifty words for “snow.”

In a modern world of abundance
where strife has become
more mental than physical
let us cleave “enjoy” and “have fun.”

”Enjoy” reminds us:
find the joy in the moment.
”Have fun” obligates us:
create the fun in the moment.

“Enjoy” is passive
and all about awareness.
“Have fun” is active
and all about manifestation.

“Enjoy” is for bowls of ice cream
and watching sunsets on the roof.
”Have fun” is for sparking gladness
at parties and in checkout lines.

Cleaving the difference
makes us better at both.
